I have several times played the role of team lead or sometimes "Fractional CTO" and have helped turn around larger firms (Winespectator.com and Timeout.com) whose technology had fallen behind the times. Typically I step in and both write code while leading the team, while also figuring out who on the team needs to be fired and then also who we need to hire. I’ve also helped with efforts to integrate multiple sales processes into a single sales process (for instance, consolidating Hubspot and Salesforce and Excel templates, often when an outside company is acquired).
